THE ARGUMENT OF R. AKIVA AND RABANAN (Yerushalmi Chalah Perek 3 Halachah 4 Daf 18a)

(Mishnah - R. Akiva): It all depends on [when] it formed a crust in the oven.

(Talmidim citing R. Lazar): R. Akiva agrees to Chachamim about a commoner's dough, that kneading it is Tovel it (forbids eating it before taking Chalah).

(R. Heila citing Talmidim citing R. Lazar): R. Akiva agrees to Chachamim about a Hekdesh dough, that kneading it exempts it.

(Kahana): R. Akiva holds that Miru'ach in the place (Reshus) of Hekdesh does not exempt.

(R. Yonah): Kahana's teaching argues with R. Lazar. The one who says that kneading [of Hekdesh] exempts, Miru'ach exempts. The one who says that kneading does not exempt, Miru'ach does not exempt;
áøí ëøáðéï âéìâåì ôåèø áøùåú äâåé. [åàéï] äîéøåç ôåèø áøùåú äâåé.
However, Rabanan (of R. Akiva) hold that kneading in the Reshus of a Nochri exempts, and Miru'ach in the Reshus of a Nochri does not exempt.

Question (against Rabanan): Does kneading in the Reshus of a Nochri exempt ("Reishis Arisoseichem" excludes of a Nochri), and Miru'ach in the Reshus of a Nochri does not exempt?! (Likewise, we should expound "Reishis Deganecha", and not Digun (Miru'ach) of a Nochri!)

Answer: Here is different, for it says "v'Chol Ma'aser ha'Aretz mi'Zera ha'Aretz" (to include Miru'ach of a Nochri).

Question: Does it not say here "mi'Lechem ha'Aretz" (to include of a Nochri)?!

Answer: "Mi'Lechem", and not all bread (excludes).

(R. Chanina brei d'R. Hillel): From this [opinion] of Rabanan, we learn that Kahana's teaching does not argue with R. Lazar! Just like Rabanan say that kneading in the Reshus of a Nochri exempts, but Miru'ach in the Reshus of a Nochri does not exempt, so R. Akiva can say that kneading of a Nochri does not exempt, and Miru'ach in the Reshus of Hekdesh does not exempt [but kneading of Hekdesh exempts, because it is unlike Miru'ach].
