DAF DISCUSSIONS - SHABBOS 12

Mordechai A Fine asked:

The gemorra says that a person could go out erev Shabbos with tefillin on and we are not choshesh that he will wear them till after Shabbos since he is required lemashmesh betefillin kol shaah. My question is after the braisa of Chanania that chayev adom lemashmesh begadav erev Shabbos im chashacha, all articles that he carries should be like tefillin. In other words since he is required to check himself before Shabbos there should no longer be a chashash thet he will carry something after sh'kia?

Kol tuv, Mordechai Fine

The Kollel replies:

Interesting question. The answer is that even after we have the Halachah of Chananya, it is still forbidden to go out with any article. The reason for the Gezeirah is that we fear that one might forget about Shabbos; since he will forget about Shabbos, he will also forget about checking his clothing before Shabbos! Checking one's Tefilin, though, applies all the time, regardless of whether Shabbos is approaching. Therefore there is no fear that one will go out with his Tefilin.

All the best,
