DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 59

Kelsey Liber asked:

I was not clear on the actual practice of saying the blessing "Ha'tov vehameitiv" on wine. it seems clear that nowadays when (almost) all the kosher wines are good, one would not say it on a "better" wine. but what about different kinds of wine? Would you say it if you switched from a white wine with the fish to a red with the meat? or to a sweet wine with dessert?

Thank You,

Kelsey Liber

The Kollel replies:

Ha'tov Vehameitiv is recited only if numerous conditions are met. These can be found in Shulchan Oruch OC 175. The Shulchan Oruch (ibid. 2) rules that if the second wine is not known to be of inferior quality compared to the first wine, Ha'tov Vehameitiv is to be recitied.
