TOLDOS (Yerushalmi Perek 1 Halachah 1 Daf 2a)

úåìãåú äùï äååï áòééï îéîø ôøä ùàëìä ùòåøéí åçîåø ùàëì ëøùéðéï åëìá ùìé÷ì÷ àú äùîï åçæéø ùàëìä áùø ëåìäåï úåìãåú äùï àéðåï.

(a)

Toldos of Shen - we wanted to say that a cow that ate barley, a donkey that ate vetch, a dog that licked up oil, or a pig that ate meat, all of them are Toldos of Shen.

àîø ø' éöç÷ ëåìäåï òé÷ø ùï àéðåï.

(b)

Rebuttal (R. Yitzchak): All of them are Avos of Shen.

åäà úàðé úåìãåú äùï ëùãøñä òì âáé ðåã îìà ùîï åáñéëä âåôä ðäðä.

(c)

Support: It was taught that Toldos of Shen are when it stepped on a flask full of oil, and it enjoyed anointment on its body.

ëîä ãúéîø úîï äùï àåëìú åäâåó ðäðä àåó äëà ðäðä âåôä.

1.

This is like you say there, that Shen eats and the body benefits. Also here, its body benefits!

øáé éøîéä áòé äéúä îäìëú åôåìèú òùáéí îäå.

(d)

Question (R. Yirmeyah): If it was walking [and uprooting with its mouth] and spewing out grass, what is the law? (Is this a Toldah of Regel, of Shen, or, since it is abnormal, of Keren? This is not answered.)

[ö''ì úåìãåú äàù - éøåùìîé öøåôä]

(e)

Question: What are Toldos of fire?

[ãó á òîåã á] [ãó á òîåã à (òåæ åäãø)] à''ø éåñé îä àí äîðéç âçìú [ö''ì ñîåê - îäø''à ôåìãà] ìøùåú äøáéí òã î÷åí ùäéà îúäìëú äéà îæ÷ú.

(f)

Answer #1 (R. Yosi): If one places a coal next to Reshus ha'Rabim, up to where [an animal] walks, he is liable.

îàé ëãåï

(g)

Rebuttal: How is this?! (This is the Av Nezek of fire itself!)

à''ø éåñé áé ø' áåï úéôúø áîðéç ñëéï ñîåëä ìøùåú äøáéí ëîä ãúéîø úîï äàù ðåâò îöã àçã åðúçìçì ëåìå àåó äëà àãí ðåâò îöã àçã åðúçìçì ëåìå.

(h)

Answer #2 (R. Yosi bei R. Bun): The case is, one who places a knife next to Reshus ha'Rabim. Just like there [the Av], fire touches on one side and harms all of it, here a person touches on one side [of the knife] and is totally harmed!

ø' éåñé áé ø' áåï áùí ø' ìåé áåø îìà îéí åðôì ùîä âãé ÷èï åðëðñå îéí ãøê àæðéå åðúçìçì ëåìå. åëà ðúçìçì ëåìå.

(i)

Answer #3 (R. Yosi bei R. Bun citing R. Levi): A pit is full of water and a small kid fell in, and water entered through its ears, and harms all of it. Here [this is like fire, for] all of it is harmed. (We explained this like YERUSHALMI TZERUFAH.)

Answer: Is this a Shinuy?! [No,] it is normal! (SEDEI YEHOSHUA)
