What is the meaning of "ka'Tzon li'Sh'ol Shatu"?

1.

Rashi: Like flock that gathers to the pen, so they are to the grave. The Dagesh in Shatu is in place of a second Sov 1 - it should say Shasesu, an expression of Shesoseha Shel She'ol - the lowest level. Also "Shatu va'Shamayim Pihem" (73:9) is an expression of Shesos.

2.

Malbim: Powers of life are like flock - an animal is destined for Shechitah, so they are destined for She'ol. The nature of physicality is to get weaker, until death.

1

Radak: The Dagesh is in place of the silent letter of the root, like "Asher Saviv Shasu Alai" (3:7). They put themselves in She'ol without any hope of leaving, via going on an evil path. Alternatively, Shatu is like Hushesu (they will be placed).

2)

What is the meaning of "Maves Yar'em"?

1.

Rashi #1: The angel of death will consume them. We find an expression of eating used for death - "Yochal Badav Bechor Maves" (Iyov 18:13).

2.

Rashi #2: "Yar'em" is an expression of Retzitzah (crushing) - "ha'Yaro'a Barzel" (Yirmeyah 15:12).

3.

Radak: Just like a shepherd gathers the flock, so death will be their shepherd; it will gather them to She'ol (Gehinom).

4.

Malbim: Just like they fatten flock in order to slaughter and kill them, so their grazing and food is death.

3)

Why does it say "va'Yirdu Vam Yesharim la'Boker"?

1.

Rashi: For the day of redemption, when the morning of Yisrael will shine, they will rule over them - "va'Asosem Resha'im

4)

Why does it say "v'Tzuram Levalos She'ol"?

1.

Rashi: The form 1 of Resha'im will wear out She'ol - 'Gehinom will finish, and they will not be finished' (Rosh Hashanah 17a).

2.

Radak: Tzuram is their strength, like "v'Ein Tzur kEi'lokeinu" (Shmuel I, 2:2). All their strength and level, She'ol will wear them out, and they have no hope.

3.

Malbim: Their strong rock - the eternal Nefesh (which is called Tzor - "v'Yetak Tzor mi'Mekomo" - Iyov 18:4), it will wear out She'ol, that it will not be a residence for this rock. The spiritual Nefesh will overpower physical powers, and return them to straightness and eternity. Intellect, form and spirituality will rule over these physical powers, which pertain to She'ol and destruction.

1

Radak: Tzuram is like Tzurasam, just like "ki'Sevunam Atzabim" (Hoshe'a 13:2) is like ki'Sevunasam.

5)

What is "mi'Zevul Lo"?

1.

Rashi: From being a residence for them. Hashem will take the sun out of its case, and it will scald them - "v'Lihat Osam ha'Yom ha'Ba" (Mal'achi 3:19).

2.

Rashi (from Rosh Hashanah 17a): It is because they stretched their hands against Zevul - they destroyed the Beis ha'Mikdash.

3.

Radak: From the nice residence that he had, he will go to the grave, a narrow and dark place.
