Who dug the pits?

1.

Radak: Those who counsel Sha'ul or Avshalom.

2.

Malbim: Intentional sinners who flagrantly argue with the Torah.

2)

What are the pits?

1.

Rashi: They come to disqualify me unlike Torah law. (Refer to 119:86:2:1.)

2.

Radak: It is bad counsel.

3)

What is "Lo ch'Sorasecha"?

1.

Rashi: Refer to 119:86:2:1.

2.

Radak: They counsel to kill me. Your Torah says "v'Lo Yishafech Dam Naki" (Devarim 19:10).

3.

Malbim: They say that the matters are not like they are written in the Torah, for they argue with them. They wanted to disqualify him from marrying into Kahal Yisrael, for they did not expound "Amoni" [may not enter Kahal Yisrael], and not an Amonis. This is unlike the Torah! (David came from Rus ha'Mo'avis; Amoni and Mo'avi are taught in the same verse; surely the same law applies to females of both nations. - PF)
