Did he grow until Tzva ha'Shamayim?!

1.

Rashi: Tzva ha'Shamayim refers to Yisrael, who are compared to stars. Malbim ? they are called so due to their Emunah. He wanted to make them transgress their Torah ? none of the other kingdoms did so!

2.

Ibn Ezra citing Gavriel: Tzva ha'Shamayim refers to Micha'el, the Sar Tzva. It says "v'Atik Yomin Yesiv" 1 , and "uva'Es ha'Hi Ya'amod Micha'el." Ibn Ezra (24) ? Micha'el is the great Sar. Other Sarim are under him.

1

Why does he bring this verse? Most explain that it refers to Hashem, and it is written long before the latter verse! The latter verse calls Micha'el "ha'Sar ha'Gadol!" (PF)

2)

What is the meaning of "va'Tapel Artzah Min ha'Tzava"?

1.

Ibn Ezra (24): He destroyed many of Yisrael.

2.

Malbim: He cast them down from Shamayim, so they will not be called Tzva ha'Shamayim and Goy Kadosh any more. Rather, they will be like nations that serve foreign gods.

3)

What stars will he cast down and trample?

1.

Malbim: These are Kohanei Hashem and "Matzdikei ha'Rabim ka'Kochavim" (12:3); he killed them.
