What are the implications of the phrase "Lih'yos Lo le'Am Segulah?" Why is that a reason not to go astray after other gods?

Ramban: Yisrael are under the sole jurisdiction of Hashem, and not under any angel. Hashem desired and chose Yisrael despite the fact that they are the smallest nation. 2

Ramban: And it would be appropriate for Hashem's nation to be numerous - as the Pasuk writes in Mishlei, 14:28 "be'Rov Am Hadras Melech".

What are the implications of "Ki Am Kadosh Atah" at the beginning of the Pasuk?

Ramban: It is particularly inappropriate for an Am Segulah 1 to stray after other gods.

2.

Seforno: Since we are a holy nation, it is not befitting to desecrate our Kedushah by bearing children who are Pasul (spiritually defected).
