Who are "Ish v'Na'aro"?

1.

Rashi: Every builder and a bachelor with him.

2)

Why does it add "v'Hayu Lanu ha'Lailah Mishmar veha'Yom Melachah"?

1.

Berachos 2b: One might have thought that night begins before Tzeis ha'Kochavim (and day begins after dawn), and they were working more than usual (to build the wall of Yerushalayim). Our verse shows that this is not so.

2.

Rashi: They guarded at night and worked during the day 1 . They did not sleep at all 2 !

1

Ibn Ezra (printed mistakenly on verse 17): The prefix Lamed is omitted; it should say l'Mishmar and li'Mlachah.

2

Yevamos 121b: If one did not sleep for three days, this is a miracle. (Perhaps Rashi means that they did not lie down to sleep, but they dozed sitting down. - PF)
