What is the meaning of "Noshkei Keshes"?
'Rashi': They are armed with a bow and arrow, and shoot in front of them and in back of them.
Why does it say "Maiminim u'Masmilim"?
Radak: They are ambidextrous. They can shoot with their right or left hands.
Malbim: Most people of Binyamin were left handed (Shoftim 20:16) 1 .
What is his source? The verse says that there were 700 expert lefty slingshot shooters. The previous verse said that there were 26,000 sword bearers! Perhaps it is reasonable to say that all the expert slingshot shooters were lefties only if most of the Shevet were lefties. (PF)
Why does it say "ba'Avanim uv'Chitzim ba'Kashes"?
'Rashi', Radak: They put [and shoot] even stones on the bowstring. I saw many do so!
Why does it say "me'Achei Sha'ul mi'Binyamin"?
'Rashi': Because they all came from one man ? from Binyamin, they are all called brothers 1 . For the honor of the greatness of David, it says me'Achei Sha'ul. Even Sha'ul's brothers came to David while Sha'ul was still alive!
Radak: Relatives of Sha'ul came to David while Sha'ul was still alive.
'Rashi's final words imply that they truly were his brothers! And every Shevet came from one man! Perhaps 'Rashi' means that there is a justification to call them brothers, and the verse does so to aggrandize David, to make it sound as if Sha'ul's brothers came to him. (PF)
