What do we learn from "Ben Yechabed Av v'Eved Adonav"?

1.

Rashi: It is incumbent on a son to honor his father, and a slave to honor his master. You are called sons and slaves. If I am your father, where is My honor?

2.

Radak: Really, a slave fears his master - "v'Im Adonim Ani Aye Mora'i." The verse discusses a known matter - it is proper for a son to honor his father, and a slave must fear his master.

3.

Malbim: A son honors his father amidst love. A slave fears his master, for he rules over him, and he fears his punishment. Therefore, he does not do something hateful in his eyes. If I am a father, and you are like sons in front of Me, who serve amidst love, where is My honor? If I am a master, for you are not at the level to serve from love, you need to fear My punishment, for I am Master over the entire world - where is My fear?

Why does Hashem address the Kohanim who disgrace His name?

1.

Radak: This is the opposite of the honor that a son should show to his father. They should have rebuked and taught [others] - "u'Vasa El ha'Kohanim ha'Leviyim" (Devarim 17:9). Not only did you not rebuke them - you support the evildoers who bring a disgraceful Korban!

3)

Did they already ask how they disgrace His name?

1.

Rashi: No - rather, I know that you will ask.
