I also heard another pshat that Sunday is Shabbos in other parts of the world when crossing the international date line.
Therefore, the gemara did not use Sunday as an example.

Thank you for sharing this interesting Pshat! Iv'e never heard it before.
One of the big problems with the discussion about the international date line is the sparsest reference to the subject in the Talmud. It is true that the discussion begins with a Sugya in Maseches Rosh Hashanah, but the subject is not explained explicitly but rather implied. It is possible that the Gemara alludes to it here in the Sanhedrin as well, but that would be a big surprise on my part!
