Why does it say "Tisgodedi Vas Gedud"?
Rashi: Now, at the time of the evil decree for the sin, for it became strong, Bas Kasdim should gather its troops. Now the troop that besieged us will succeed.
Radak: At that time, troops will come upon you. Bas Gedud is a swarm of bees.
Malbim: This explains which nations will gather against Yerushalayim, and Yisrael will thresh them. They are the sons of the nations that afflicted Yerushalayim and destroyed it in ancient days, e.g. Ashur, Bavel and Romi. The troops now are the descendants of them.
Why does it say "Matzor Sam Aleinu"?
Radak: Magog besieged us with all his troops and soldiers.
What is the significance of "ba'Shevet Yaku Al ha'Lechi"?
Rashi: Who caused you to succeed? It is because Yisrael insulted their Nevi'im and judges, and strike them on the cheek. It says in Pesikta (d'Rav Kahana Nachamu 125b) that they did so, and it says "Gevi Nasati l'Makim" (Yeshayah 50:6).
Radak: "V'Yatza Chatzi ha'Ir ba'Golah" (Zecharyah 14:2) - then they will disgrace the judges and leaders of Yisrael, to the point that they strike them on the cheek with a staff, disgracefully.
Malbim: The troops now are also the descendants of those who besieged us in prior days. They will be in the camp of Gog and Magog. They will be also descendants of those who struck Yisrael's judges on the cheek with a staff. Striking on the cheek is disgraceful, and so is striking with a staff, and all the more so if they strike on the cheek with a staff. They did so to the judges, and all the more so to commoners among them.
