Why does it say "Ivri" (feminine singular) "Lachem" (plural)?

Rashi: First it addresses the Kenesiyah (congregation) of the city, like it says "Yosheves Shafir." Lachem addresses the Rabim (Radak ? individuals. Verses often switch like this.)

What is "Yosheves Shafir"?

1.

Rashi: Shafir is the name of the city.

2.

Radak: This is a different expression in the way of lamentation. Shafir is beauty, like "ha'Nosen Imrei Shafer" (Bereishis 49:21). The Targum of "Yefe So'ar" (ibid. 39:6) is Shapir b'Reiva. Its opposite is "Eryah Voshes." Revealing Ervah is repulsive.

What is the meaning of "Eryah Voshes"?

1.

Rashi: The place of Boshes (shame, i.e. the Ervah) is revealed. This connects to Shafir, a miscarriage that leaves the womb.

Radak: They will go to Galus naked, with revealed Ervah, like "va'Chashufei Shes" (Yeshayah 20:4). Eryah is revealed, like "v'At Arum v'Eryah" (Yechezkel 16:7). Boshes is the Ervah ? "v'Hechezikah bi'Mvushav" (Devarim 25:11). Eryah is a noun or adjective. It ends with a Hei, even though it is Samuch (a compound noun), like "k'Eifah Se'orim" (Rus 2:17).

Malbim: In the city Shafir, the enemy stripped everyone and left them naked and alive; they did not fight them. The verse personifies Eryah Voshes (Giluy Ervah), and tells it not to go to Tza'anan, for there they will kill everyone. Rather, go to Yosheves Shafir; you will go naked.

Why does it say "Lo Yatz'ah Yosheves Tza'anan [Misped Beis ha'Etzel]"?

1.

Rashi citing Targum Yonasan: A remnant will not come out of the residents of Tza'anan.

Radak: Also here, the action is like the name of the place. Yatz'ah is like Tza'anan. Beis ha'Etzel is a place. Residents of Tza'anan will not go to the eulogy there. It seems that residents of Etzel were exiled first. When they were crying and eulogizing, Yoshevei Tza'anan did not come to console them, for they knew that they will be exiled; their own affliction suffices for them.

Malbim: The city Tza'anan closed the walls of the city and fought the enemy. Even though the enemy killed all those who lived in houses around the city (Beis ha'Etzel), they did not want to open their gates. Therefore, when it was conquered, the enemy killed everyone. They were not content to just take spoils. Tza'anan's residents did not want to open the gate and leave the wall, even for the eulogy of Beis ha'Etzel, even though the houses near it made a great eulogy for those who were killed.

What is the meaning of "[Misped Beis ha'Etzel] Yikach Mikem Emdaso"?

1.

Rashi: The eulogy that you caused to the victims of theft ? you steal his inheritance in order to join [his] house to [your] house, and field to field, one Etzel (by) the other ? it will take from you Emdaso, the standing of the buildings that you built and established on their inheritance. Beis ha'Etzel is bringing together.

Radak citing his father: They will stand and delay in a siege around them. They will take from them wages for this ? they will take all their property and exile them. Emdah is like Amidah, just its grammatical form is like Chemdah and Chemlah.

3.

Malbim: Because Yoshevei Tza'anan did not leave to go to the eulogy, it will come to them; many will be killed in the city. In the city square they will make a great eulogy for those killed in the city and in Beis ha'Etzel (houses nearby).
