68) [line 17] ממעשה דברוריא MA'ASEH D'BERURIYA - the story of Beruriyah. As our Gemara mentions on 18a, Beruriyah was the wife of Rebbi Meir. She was a distinguished and well-learned woman. She scoffed, however, at the assertion of Chazal that "Nashim Daitan Kalos Aleihen" - "the intellect of women is light upon them." This means that women are more easily persuaded than men. In order to prove that Chazal were correct, her husband Rebbi Meir enlisted the help of one of his students, asking him to seduce his wife. The student eventually succeeded in his seduction, but before sinning explained to Beruriyah how she had been set up and why. In her shame Beruriyah committed suicide. According to one opinion in our Gemara, Rebbi Meir was so embarrassed following this incident that he ran to Bavel.
