What is the meaning of "v'Hecherim"?

1.

Rashi: He will dry it, in order that Yisraelim exiled in Egypt will be able to pass.

2.

Radak: It is cutting off and destruction. It applies also to the seas - "l'Gozer Yam Suf li'Gzarim" (Tehilim 136:13).

2)

What is "Leshon Yam Mitzrayim"?

1.

Radak: It is the river of Egypt called Shichor (Nile).

3)

What is the meaning of "v'Henif Yado"?

1.

Radak: He will make a strong wind to dry it, like he did to Yam Suf in Yetzi'as Mitzrayim.

4)

Which river is this?

1.

Rashi: It is the Pras 1 in order that Yisraelim exiled in Ashur will be able to pass.

1

This is more significant if they will return in late winter, when the Pras increases due to rain and melting snow, and it is impossible to cross it (Me'iri Ta'anis 10a) due to currents of 120 kilometers (70 miles) an hour; refer to Yerushalmi to Match NEDARIM 53, 4:p:1).

5)

What is "ba'Yam Rucho"?

1.

Rashi: There is no word like this in Tanach. Based on context, it seems that it is with the strength of His Ru'ach.

2.

Radak citing his brother R. Moshe: Ayam is like "l'Iy ha'Sadeh" (Michah 1:6), i.e. a wave. He 1 will wave His hand and Ru'ach to silence [the waves] and dry them.

1

It seems that the text of Radak should say 'v'Henif' or 'v'Hu Yanif'. We explain based on this. (PF)

6)

What is the significance of seven Nechalim?

1.

Rashi: There will be seven lanes 1 , for exiles from the seven places listed - "me'Ashur umi'Mitzrayim

1

It seems that Rashi explains Nachal to be a valley, like he wrote above (7:19) and in Devarim (21:4). (PF)

2

Surely he excludes Egypt, for one who goes from Egypt to Eretz Yisrael does not pass the Pras. If so, he should exclude also Kush! Perhaps verse 11 discusses the Kush in Asia; refer to Shemos 7:27:151:1*. (PF)

3

The Torah explicitly lists five punishments after this. In order to count seven, Rashi (verse 22) includes Shen Behemos and Chamas Zochalei Afar, which are mentioned in Devarim. (PF)

7)

Why does it say "v'Hidrich ba'Ne'alim"?

1.

Rashi: He will lead [the exiles in shoes, for it will be] dry.

2.

Radak: "V'Hidrich" is Po'el Yotzei (it acts on others); Hashem will cause the exiles to be Dorech (step).

3.

Malbim: "Ba'Ne'alim" is where they are No'el (lock) the river and stop the flow of its waters. In the seven places mentioned, there will be a path for the Rabim.
