(1) From the words of Rav Ashi, it is evident that on the day before or the day after a Yom Tov of Megilas Ta'anis, only Ta'anis is Asur and not Hesped, unless it is a day which both follows one Yom Tov and precedes another, in which case both Ta'anis and Hesped are Asur.
However, RASHI on the Mishnah (15b, DH Kol ha'Kasuv) writes that on the day before a Yom Tov (and so, too, the day after, according to Rebbi Yosi), Hesped is also Asur. It could be, perhaps, that Rashi writes this only according to Abaye, who does not give the same explanation as Rav Ashi (see Mar'eh Kohen there).
