6a)[line 5]מעשה ידי אשתוMA'ASEH YEDEI ISHTO - the goods produced by one's wife

The Mishnah in Kesuvos (64b) states that a woman must produce the weight of five Sela'im of Shesi (spun warp thread, the longitudinal thread of the loom, which is thinner and harder to make than the woof thread, the latitudinal thread) in Yehudah. This amount is equal to ten Sela'im of Shesi in the Galil, since the Sela of Yehudah weighs twice as much as the Sela of the Galil. Alternatively, she may produce the weight of ten Sela'im of Erev (woof) in Yehudah, equal to twenty Sela'im of Erev in the Galil.

There is a Machlokes Tana'im as to whether a person can designate as Hekdesh (consecrate) anything that has not as yet emerged into the world, such as the fruits of a tree or the goods to be produced by his wife.

10)[line 27]שיכול לכופה למעשה ידיהSHE'YACHOL L'CHOFAH L'MA'ASEH YADEHA- because he can force her to work. (Nevertheless, he can prohibit only her Mosar and not her Ma'aseh Yadayim, since the Mishnah is discussing a specific situation in which the husband is allowed to keep only his wife's Mosar but not his wife's Ma'aseh Yadayim - as the Gemara explains at the end of the page. -TOSFOS)

Rebbi Meir is of the opinion that a person does not utter words for no purpose; therefore, when a person's statement seems to be nonsensical, we "read into" his words a more plausible explanation.
