DAF DISCUSSIONS - BECHOROS 49

Barry Epstein asked:

The Mishnah says that if a father and son both stand for redemption, R' Yehudah holds the son takes precedence as the father's obligation was on his deceased father. But not that the grandfather is deceased, the obligation of both is entirely on the father. Doesn't this negate R' Yehudah's reasoning?

Barry Epstein, Dallas, USA

The Kollel replies:

The obligation on the father is primary while on the son it is secondary, and therefore the father's obligation as a father takes precedence over his obligation as a son.
