Why does it say that Yaravam will receive 10 Shevatim? He did not receive Binyamin, Yehudah, and also Shimon, which inherited amidst Yehudah!

1.

Targum Yonasan (Bereishis 49:7) says that Shimon will inherit partially amidst Yehudah, and partially amidst the other tribes 1 . If most was among the others, it is considered that Yaravam received it, for we follow the majority. (PF)

2.

Rashi (Bereishis 49:7) says that Bnei Shimon were poor, scribes or teachers of children, which forced them to scatter amidst the tribes to find income. If most were among the other tribes, we can say that Yaravam received Shevet Shimon, based on the majority. (PF)

3.

Perhaps indeed, Yaravam received authority over Shevet Shimon, even though they were amidst Yehudah 2 . (PF)

1

Yehoshua 19:1-9 and all the Meforshim there, including Targum Yonasan, imply that Shimon inherited only amidst Yehudah! This requires investigation. (PF)

2

Sancheriv exiled the 10 tribes. Did he enter Yehudah, and exile cities of Shimon, but leave cities of Yehudah?! Or, did he not exile Shimon, and we say '10 tribes' based on our verse, even though it is imprecise?! (PF)
