(Mishnah): If an ox fell in with its Kelim and they broke, or a donkey with its Kelim and they tore, he is liable for the animal, and exempt for the Kelim.

(Shmuel): [He is exempt for the Kli] when it broke or tore due to the [pit's dank] air, but if it [was due to] banging on its ground, he is liable.

A Kal v'Chomer would have obligated. A pit for damages (less than 10 Tefachim) is exempt for Misah and liable for Kelim. A pit of 10 Tefachim, which is liable for Misah, all the more so it should be liable for Kelim!
