Dear Rephael,
The Gemara thought that only an eater himself can cause others to eat, but then proves not that way. First, from a Kohen Arel who cannot eat but enables his servants to eat (this proof gets rejected), and then from a Mamzer who is the grandson of a Kohen who cannot eat but enables his grandmother to eat.
