Hello kollel!

My mishna yomi shiur mentioned rebuilding a wall to a height of 4 Amit bc the assumption is the average height is 3 Amot. Is that true? 3 Amit is approx 4.5 feet which seems quite short for an average height.

Shalom Josh,

That is an interesting explanation. I understand that the basic reason why the wall should be built up to specifically four Amos is because that is high enough to prevent people from looking in, as Rashi and other Mefarshim explain. In relation to the typical height of people and walls, you may have the chance to study the Tosfos to Yoma 31a-b (DH Amah Al Amah b'Rom Shalosh Amos) who discusses it at some length.
