DAF DISCUSSIONS - GITIN 44

Dan asks:

About which monetary punishments (Kenasos) does the Gemara discuss whether they apply to his heirs if he dies?

Dan , New York, NY, USA

The Kollel replies:

1) Paying up to 10 or 100 times the Eved's value in order to redeem him, if he was sold by the father to the Oved Kochavim;

2) Being prohibited to slaughter the sanctified firstborn animal if the father inflicted on it a blemish, even though a natural blemish generally grants permission to slaughter the firstborn.

3) Being forbidden to do work on Chol ha'Moed, even though the heirs will suffer a loss as a result, in a case where the father deliberately waited until Chol ha'Moed in order to do the work.

4) Sewing the field after the Shemitah year, if it was worked on by the father in a way forbidden by the Torah during Shemitah.

5) Paying the damage for Tahor food which was made Tamei by the father.
