'Rashi' (from Avodah Zarah 24b): They are planks with indentations. Animals step on them, and the grain is threshed ? "l'Moreg Charutz" (Yeshayah 41:15).

Rashi (Shmuel II, 24:22, from Avodah Zarah 24b): It is a heavy wooden Kli full of grooves. One constantly passes it over straw to cut it to be food for animals.
