FOOTNOTES:
==========
(1) The Gemara rules stringently in all of the laws of the Avel. All of the prohibitions and requirements listed here apply to him. The only leniency is that he does not observe Aveilus during the festival.
(2) This is the conclusion of Rav Yosef, based on the Beraisa which says that Beis Din may declare someone to be in Niduy on Chol ha'Mo'ed. (Abaye, however, rejects this proof; see Rashi DH Dilma and DH Ela. According to Abaye, it remains questionable whether the laws of a Menudah must be observed during Chol ha'Mo'ed.)
(3) Tosfos (15b, DH v'Yeshvu) points out that this refers only to the first one or two days of Aveilus, during which an Avel does not wear Tefilin, as the Gemara explains later (21a).
(4) This law applies only during his count of seven days, before he brings his Korbanos and becomes Tahor (as the Gemara teaches on 7b), but not during the days when he is a Metzora Muchlat, during which time he may be with his wife (Tosfos ibid.).
(5) The Gemara says that he may not send Korbanos "when he is an *Onen*." The Tosefta, however, says that during *all* of the days of Aveilus, he may not send Korbanos. This is also the ruling of Rashi Kesav Yad, as well as the Rambam and Talmid Rabeinu Yechiel. The Tosfos Rid, however, says that only an Onen may not send Korbanos.
