SUMMARY

1. There is a dispute about whether one may separate Chalah on Yom Tov from dough that he made before Yom Tov.

2. There is a dispute about moving a big ladder from one coop to another coop in order to obtain birds to slaughter on Yom Tov.

3. Rav Chanan bar Ami explains this dispute (#2).

4. One is not allowed to perform an action that gives the impression that he is transgressing, even though in reality he is not transgressing.

5. There is another version of Rav Chanan bar Ami's explanation of this dispute (#2).

A BIT MORE

1. Rabah: He may separate Chalah. Avuha d'Shmuel: He may not.

2. Beis Shamai: One may not move a ladder from one coop to another coop, but one may move it from one window to another window in one large coop. Beis Hillel: He also may move the ladder from one coop to another coop.

3. Rav Chanan explains that the dispute refers to the public domain. Beis Shamai is concerned that people may think that he is using the ladder to put pitch on his roof (which is forbidden on Yom Tov), while Beis Hillel says that people will realize that he is moving it from coop to coop. However, everyone agrees that one may move the ladder from coop to coop in a private domain.

4. This applies even when he performs this action alone, in the privacy of his home.

5. In this version, everyone agrees that one may not do so in public; the dispute involves the principle stated above (#4). Beis Shamai agrees with this principle, while Beis Hillel does not.
