SUMMARY

1. There is a dispute about who the musicians in the Beis ha'Mikdash were.

2. The Gemara initially assumes that this argument (#1) is also the argument about whether the primary Shirah is fulfilled with musical instruments.

3. The Gemara cites a verse supporting the opinion that the primary Shirah is fulfilled with instruments.

4. The Gemara cites a verse supporting the opinion that the main primary Shirah is fulfilled with people singing.

5. Whoever did not see the Simchas Beis ha'Sho'evah did not see happiness in his lifetime.

A BIT MORE

1. Rebbi Meir: They were the servants of the Kohanim. Rebbi Yosi: They were Yisraelim. Rebbi Chanina ben Antignos: They were Leviyim.

2. However, the Gemara concludes that all opinions may agree that the primary Shirah is done by people, and the dispute is whether musicians in the Beis ha'Mikdash were presumed to have good lineage. The opinion that says that the musicians were servants maintains that being a musician in the Beis ha'Mikdash could not be used as proof for one's lineage.

3. The verse states, "And Chizkiyahu said to offer the Olah on the Mizbe'ach. And when the Olah was offered, the song of Hashem and the Chatzotzeros and the instruments of David, King of Israel, started (as well)" (Divrei ha'Yamim II 29:27).

4. The verse states, "And it was for one, for the people blowing the Chatzotzeros and those singing to raise their voice as one" (Divrei ha'Yamim II 5:13).

5. Four huge and very tall fires of 120 Lug of oil each were lit, lighting up the entire cite of Yerushalayim. Many righteous people danced with torches accompanied by many musical instruments.
