NIDAH 68 (9 Av) - Dedicated by Mrs. Gitti Kornfeld in memory of her father, Reb Yisrael Shimon ben Shlomo ha'Levi Turkel, whose Yahrzeit is on 10 Av.

SUMMARY

1. A woman is supposed to prepare herself for immersion immediately before the immersion.

2. The Mishnah discusses the case of a woman who checks herself on the morning of the seventh day of her Nidah cycle.

3. There is a dispute about when a woman may rely on her last checking in order to become Tahor.

4. The Gemara discusses the case of a woman who checked herself on the seventh day of her Nidah cycle and found herself to be Tamei, and then days later she also found blood.

5. There is a dispute about whether checking on the first and seventh clean days suffices in order to establish the seven clean days.

A BIT MORE

1. Accordingly, preparations on Erev Shabbos do not suffice if she is planning to immerse on Motza'i Shabbos.

2. If she finds herself to be Tahor and immerses that night, and then finds herself to be Tamei, any Taharos she handled from after her immersion until she found herself to be Tamei are considered Tahor. However, if she checked on the morning of the seventh and found herself to be Tamei (and the same events occurred), any Taharos she handled between her immersion and finding that she was Tamei are considered Tamei.

3. Tana Kama (see #2): If she checks on the morning of her seventh day and finds that she is Tahor, she may rely on this to immerse and does not have to check again. Rebbi Yehudah: She may not rely on any checking in this manner that occurs before Minchah Ketanah of the seventh day. Chachamim: She may rely even on any checking that occurred from the second day onwards.

4. Rav: She is a definite Zavah, as she apparently was bleeding for many days after her Nidah cycle. Levi: She is only a doubtful Zavah, as it is possible that she stopped bleeding for a few days after the end of her Nidah cycle and only started again when she checked recently.

5. Rebbi Eliezer: This establishes seven clean days. Rebbi Yehoshua: This counts only for two clean days, as checking was done on only two days. Rebbi Akiva: The seventh day is the only day that is considered a clean day.
