MENACHOS 56 - Dedicated l'Iluy Nishmas Reb Naftali (Tuli) ben Reb Menachem Mendel Bodner Z"L by his wife, Alice Bodner. A man who loved to do Chesed, Tuli Bodner applied his many talents to help everyone he knew in any way he could. His cheerful greeting is warmly remembered by all who knew him. His Yahrzeit is 5 Cheshvan.

SUMMARY

1. Se'irei Avodah Zarah require Semichah. The Se'irei Chatas of the Nesi'im did not require Semichah, according to Rebbi Shimon.

2. According to Rebbi Yehudah, the Se'irei Chatas of the Nesi'im also required Semichah.

3. The blood of a Korban Chatas must be received in the north of the Azarah by a Kohen who is also standing in the north. However, if the one who slaughters the Korban Chatas is not standing in the north, the Korban is valid.

4. The Shechitah and the Kabalas ha'Dam of an Olas ha'Of may be done in the south of the Azarah.

5. The Shechitah and the Kabalas ha'Dam of a Korban Pesach may be done in the south of the Azarah.

6. Rav Papa says that if one Kohen shapes a Minchah of Chametz and another Kohen bakes it, the Kohen who bakes the Minchah is Chayav two sets of Malkus.

7. If a animal which is a Bechor has blood poisoning, one is permitted to let blood in a place where it will not cause a Mum (anywhere except the eyes and the ears), according to Rebbi Meir.

8. The Chachamim maintain that one is permitted to let the blood of a Bechor even in a place where it causes a Mum, but the Bechor may not be slaughtered until it develops another Mum. Rebbi Shimon maintains that the Bechor may be slaughtered without another Mum.

9. Rebbi Yehudah says that one is forbidden to let the blood of the Bechor even in a place where it does not cause a Mum, even if the animal will die if blood is not let.

10. One is forbidden to castrate an animal further, even if the animal has already been castrated.

11. One is permitted to cause a Mum to an animal of Hekdesh which was redeemed.

12. One is forbidden to cause a Mum to a Bechor even in an indirect manner.

A BIT MORE

1. Other Chata'os require Semichah. However, the Se'irei Chatas of the Nesi'im were unique Korbanos brought only for the Chanukas ha'Mishkan, and thus their law cannot be derived from the law of other Chata'os.

2. However, according to Rebbi Yehudah, it was not necessary to slaughter the Se'irei Chatas of the Nesi'im in the north of the Azarah, since they were not brought for a sin.

3. Although the animal must be in the north at the time of the Shechitah, the Shochet of a Korban Chatas may be standing in the south during the Shechitah.

4. The law of an Olas ha'Of cannot be derived from the law of an Olas Behemah which must be slaughtered in the north of the Azarah, because the Melikah of an Of does not require a Kli, unlike Shechitah.

5. Although a Korban Pesach must be brought at a fixed time, its law is not learned from an Olah Chatas or from an Asham, which are slaughtered in the north, because those Korbanos are Kodshei Kodashim. A Korban Pesach is Kodshim Kalim.

6. Since the baking of the Minchah is the completion of the shaping of the Minchah, the Kohen who bakes the Minchah is also finishing the shaping of the Minchah. If the shaping and the baking is made into Chametz, he is Chayav both for shaping and baking the Minchah into Chametz.

7. According to Rebbi Meir, even though blood poisoning is a Mum, since the animal will die from it if it is not cured, one is forbidden to cause another Mum by letting blood in the eyes or ears.

8. According to the Chachamim, since the Bechor already has a Mum, one is permitted to cause another Mum, but the Bechor may not be slaughtered until it develops another Mum. According to Rebbi Shimon, the Bechor may be slaughtered even without another Mum, because he did not cause the Mum in order to allow him to slaughtered it but rather to heal it. Since it was not intentional, it is permitted.

9. Rebbi Yehudah agrees with Rebbi Meir, who says that one is forbidden to cause a Mum even to a Bechor which already has a Mum. Rebbi Yehudah is concerned that if the owner is allowed to let blood in a place where it does not cause a Mum, out of his great haste to save the valuable animal he will let blood in a place which causes a Mum.

10. One is forbidden to castrate even an animal of Chulin. If the Beitzim of the animal were cut but are still in the sac, one may not cut them off entirely.

11. Even though one is forbidden to shear the animal or to work with it since it is Pesulei ha'Mukdashim, one is permitted to cause it to have a Mum.

12. One may not place dough or dates on the ear of the Bechor so that a dog will bite off its ear and render it blemished.
