MENACHOS 5 (4 Elul) - Dedicated l'Iluy Nishmas Chaim Yissachar (ben Yaakov) Smulewitz of Cleveland on his Yahrzeit, by his son in law, Eli Turkel of Raanana, Israel.

SUMMARY

1. If an Asham Metzora is offered she'Lo Lishmah, or if the blood was not placed on the Behonos of the Metzora, the Asham is valid. Another Asham must be offered in order to permit the Metzora to enter the Machaneh.

2. Reish Lakish says that if the Kohen separated the Kometz of a Minchas ha'Omer she'Lo Lishmah, the Minchah is valid. The Shirayim may not be eaten until another Minchah is brought.

3. A Korban ha'Of may be brought in partnership, but not a Minchah. A Minchah may brought by the Tzibur, but not a Korban ha'Of.

4. If the Matanos of the Log Shemen of the Metzora were done prior to the Matanos of the blood of the Asham, or if the Matanos on the Behonos were done prior to the seven Matanos, new Shemen must be brought and the Matanos of the Shemen must be repeated.

5. Rebbi Yochanan and Reish Lakish say that even when the Beis ha'Mikdash was standing, the new crop of grain was permitted immediately upon dawn on the sixteenth of Nisan.

6. Menachos and Bikurim may not be brought from the new crop of produce before the Minchas ha'Omer has been offered on the sixteenth of Nisan. If they are is brought before the Minchas ha'Omer, they are Pasul.

7. Rava says that if the Kohen separated the Kometz of a Minchas ha'Omer she'Lo Lishmah, the Minchah is valid and the Shirayim may be eaten.

8. Rava says that the Machshavah of a Kohen Ba'al Mum, or a Machshavah a Kohen has while the Mizbe'ach is in disrepair, has no impact on the Korban.

9. It is forbidden to bring a Tereifah for a Korban.

10. According to Rebbi Akiva, produce which grows spontaneously during the Shevi'is year has Kedushas Shevi'is and may not be eaten.

A BIT MORE

1. This contradicts the view of Rav, who maintains that an Asham Nazir or Asham Metzora which was offered she'Lo Lishmah is Pasul because it failed to be Matir.

2. Since the new crop of grain may not be eaten until the Minchas ha'Omer is offered, and a Minchas ha'Omer which offered she Lo Lishmah is not Matir the grain, the Shirayim may not be eaten until another Minchah is offered.

3. Another difference between a Korban ha'Of and a Minchah is that a Korban ha'Of is permitted with Melikah, even though a bird of Chulin is permitted only with Shechitah. A Minchah is permitted only when Chulin would also be permitted.

4. If the Chatas of a Metzora is brought prior to his Asham, it must be left out overnight and than taken out to be burned.

5. However, it is a Mitzvah to delay eating from the new crop until the Minchas ha'Omer is offered.

6. L'Chatchilah, Menachos and Bikurim may not be offered before the Shtei ha'Lechem is brought on Shavuos. B'Di'eved, if they are offered between the sixteenth of Nisan and Shavuos, they are valid.

7. Although the Minchah was offered she'Lo Lishmah, it is Matir the new crop, according to Rava. Therefore, the Shirayim may be eaten, because, according to Rava, a Minchas ha'Omer is brought from barley while all other Menachos (other than a Minchas Kena'os) are brought from wheat, and thus a Machshavas she'Lo Lishmah does not have any impact.

8. If the Mizbe'ach is in disrepair, a Korban may not be offered. If a Kohen did the Kometz of a Minchah with a Machshavas Pigul at a time that the Mizbe'ach was in disrepair, and the Mizbe'ach was repaired on the same day, the Kometz may be burned on the Mizbe'ach.

9. A Tereifah is forbidden even for Chulin. A Gezeiras ha'Kasuv is necessary to teach that it is forbidden for a Korban as well, because certain things are forbidden for Chulin but permitted for a Korban.

10. Produce which has Kedushas Shevi'is may not be eaten after the Bi'ur. The time for Bi'ur has arrived when the produce is no longer available to the animals in the field. At that time, the produce may no longer be eaten.
