MENACHOS 101-103 - Dedicated by Andy and Nancy Neff in memory of Lucy Rabin, Leah Miriam bat Yisroel. Beloved mother of Nancy Neff, Valerie, Doug and Andy Rabin, and wife of Sidney Rabin, Lucy Rabin passed away on 14 Sivan 5767.

SUMMARY

1. Something which was sanctified in a Kli Shares may not be redeemed.

2. A Korban may be redeemed only after it develops a permanent Mum.

3. A bird, wood, Levonah, and a utensil of Hekdesh may not be redeemed.

4. If one is Makdish an unblemished animal for Bedek ha'Bayis, when it is redeemed the money must be used for the purchase of a Korban.

5. Rav Kahana maintains that a Minchah or Nesachim may be redeemed only if it has become Tamei.

6. Rebbi Elazar maintains that a Minchas Chotei is an exception and may be redeemed even when it is Tahor.

7. Even prohibited foods, from which one may not derive benefit, are Metamei Tum'as Ochlin, according to the Tana Kama. Rebbi Shimon disagrees.

8. If Kodshim becomes Nosar prior to the Zerikas ha'Dam, it is not Metamei Tum'as Ochlin, according to Rebbi Shimon.

9. Kodshim which is Pigul is not Metamei Tum'as Ochlin, according to Rebbi Shimon. However, a Minchah which is Pigul is Metamei Tum'as Ochlin.

10. Rebbi Shimon maintains that a Parah Adumah is Metamei Tum'as Ochlin because there was a time at which it was Kosher.

A BIT MORE

1. Even a Korban may not be redeemed once it has been slaughtered and sanctified in a Kli Shares.

2. If it develops a temporary Mum, it also may not be redeemed, since it can be brought as a Korban after the Mum heals.

3. A bird which was sanctified as a Korban has Kedushas ha'Guf and may not be redeemed. Wood, Levonah, and a Kli Shares are difficult to attain and, therefore, the Rabanan decreed that they may not be redeemed.

4. Even though he was Makdish the animal for Bedek ha'Bayis, since it is fit to be a Korban it must be used for the Mizbe'ach.

5. He disagrees with Shmuel who maintains that a Minchah or Nesachim which was not yet sanctified in a Kli Shares may be redeemed even if it is Tahor.

6. A poor person who was Makdish flour for a Minchas Chotei and subsequently became wealthy must redeem it even if it is Tahor. He should add money and buy an animal for a Korban.

7. Rebbi Shimon agrees that meat cooked with milk is Metamei Tum'as Ochlin, because he maintains that one is permitted to derive benefit from Basar b'Chalav. Furthermore, since the meat and milk were permitted before they were cooked together, the mixture is Metamei even after it becomes forbidden.

8. However, if it became Nosar after Zerikas Dam, it is Metamei Tum'as Ochlin because it was Kosher before it became Nosar.

9. The Minchah is Metamei Tum'as Ochlin because it was Kosher before it was sanctified for a Minchah, as opposed to an animal which may not be eaten while it is alive.

10. Rebbi Shimon maintains that a Parah Adumah may be redeemed even after it was slaughtered, if a nicer one is found. Rebbi Shimon says that anything ready to be redeemed is considered redeemed. Therefore, it is considered to have been Kosher for some time, and it is Metamei Tum'as Ochlin.
