13th CYCLE DEDICATIONS:

ERUVIN 67 (5 Sivan) - Dedicated l'Zecher Nishmas Reb Chaim Aryeh ben Aharon Stern Z'L by Shmuel Gut of Brooklyn, N.Y.

SUMMARY

1. Rav Chisda and Rav Sheshes had two different specialties in learning Torah.

2. The Gemara discusses the case of two houses on opposite sides of the Reshus ha'Rabim that were surrounded by Nochrim on Shabbos.

3. The Gemara discusses whether one Jew may nullify his share of the courtyard to another Jew in the courtyard if a Nochri in their courtyard died on Shabbos.

4. If one throws an object from the Reshus ha'Rabim into a massive area that is surrounded by walls, even if the area was not made for residential purposes, he is liable.

5. Rav Yehudah repeated a rule regarding when a student should question a Halachic ruling of his teacher.

A BIT MORE

1. Rav Chisda was a very deep thinker, while Rav Sheshes had expertise in the breadth of Mishnayos (and perhaps Beraisos as well).

2. The Gemara's question is whether one owner may nullify his domain (within the walls of Nochrim encompassing them) to the other. The Gemara concludes that everyone maintains that this may not be done (unless, of course, it is a situation of Piku'ach Nefesh).

3. The Gemara concludes that this is the subject of a dispute.

4. Even though the Chachamim prohibited carrying more than four Amos at a time in such a large area (more than a Beis Se'asayim), it is still a Reshus ha'Yachid according to Torah law.

5. If a scholarly student sees his teacher give a ruling regarding a matter of Torah law, and the student has a question about it, he should ask before the ruling is carried out. If it is a Rabbinic matter, he should ask his question after the ruling is carried out.
