SUMMARY

1. According to Rebbi Yosi ha'Glili, the Kiyor is placed south of the Mizbe'ach, between the Mizbe'ach and the Ulam.

2. According to Rebbi Yosi ha'Glili, the entire Mizbe'ach is in the north of the Azarah.

3. According to Rebbi Eliezer ben Yakov, the entire Mizbe'ach is in the south of the Azarah.

4. Rav says that all Kodshim slaughtered at a time when the Mizbe'ach is damaged are Pasul. Kodshim which were sanctified previously may be brought after the Mizbe'ach is repaired.

5. Rebbi Yochanan says that even Kodshim sanctified prior to the damage to the Mizbe'ach may not be brought, even after the Mizbe'ach is repaired.

6. Rav says that if the Mizbe'ach in the Heichal is uprooted, the Ketores may be brought in the place where the Mizbe'ach should have been.

7. Rebbi Yehudah says that Shlomo ha'Melech sanctified the floor of the Azarah in order to bring Korbanos on the floor, because the Mizbe'ach was too small for all of the Korbanos that were brought during the Chanukas ha'Mizbe'ach.

8. Rebbi Yosi says that it was not necessary for Shlomo ha'Melech to sanctify the floor of the Azarah. Although the Mizbe'ach of Moshe Rabeinu was too small for all of the Korbanos, the Mizbe'ach of the Beis ha'Mikdash was large enough for them.

9. Rebbi Yosi says that the copper Mizbe'ach of Moshe Rabeinu was five by five Amos. Rebbi Yehudah says that it was ten by ten Amos.

10. Rebbi Yehudah says that the copper Mizbe'ach of Moshe Rabeinu was three Amos high. Rebbi Yosi says that it was ten Amos high.

A BIT MORE

1. The Torah states that the Kiyor must be placed between the Mizbe'ach and the Ohel Mo'ed. However, the Torah also states that nothing may separate between the Mizbe'ach and the entrance to the Ohel Mo'ed. In order to reconcile these two requirements, the Kiyor is placed between the Ulam and the Mizbe'ach, but not directly opposite the Mizbe'ach.

2. It is impossible to place the Kiyor directly opposite the Mizbe'ach. The Mizbe'ach is in the northern part of the Azarah, and Rebbi Yosi ha'Glili says that the north of the Azarah must be free from utensils. Therefore, the Kiyor is placed south of the Mizbe'ach.

3. Rebbi Eliezer ben Yakov maintains that the north of the Azarah must be free from all utensils, including the Mizbe'ach.

4. According to Rav, although Korbanos may not be brought when the Mizbe'ach is in disrepair, the Korbanos which were sanctified previously are valid even though, at the time of their sanctification, it was not possible to bring the animals on the Mizbe'ach. The reason is that Rav maintains that animals are never pushed off completely from being able to be offered on the Mizbe'ach, even if they were fit to be offered at one time and subsequently became unfit to be offered.

5. According to Rebbi Yochanan, animals become pushed off completely from being able to be offered on the Mizbe'ach if, at one time, they become unfit to be offered on the Mizbe'ach.

6. However, Rav agrees that Korbanos may be brought only while the Mizbe'ach is intact.

7. 22,000 Shelamim were brought during the Chanukas ha'Mizbe'ach. Shlomo ha'Melech brought 1,000 Olos on the copper Mizbe'ach of Moshe Rabeinu, which was ten by ten Amos according to Rebbi Yehudah. The stone Mizbe'ach of the Beis ha'Mikdash was larger than the Mizbe'ach of Moshe Rabeinu. However, the Mizbe'ach of the Beis ha'Mikdash was not proportionately large enough to handle the massive amount of Korbanos which were brought at the time of the Chanukas ha'Mizbe'ach.

8. According to Rebbi Yosi, the Mizbe'ach of Moshe Rabeinu was only five by five Amos. After subtracting four Amos for the two Keranos and for a space for the Kohanim to walk between the Ma'arachah and the Keranos, the area of the Ma'arachah was only one Amah square. Thus, the area of the Mizbe'ach of the Beis ha'Mikdash, which had a Ma'arachah of twenty Amos square was, proportionately, more than enough for all of the Korbanos which were brought at the time of the Chanukas ha'Mizbe'ach.

9. According to Rebbi Yehudah, the five Amos mentioned in the Torah are measured from the middle of the Mizbe'ach.

10. According to Rebbi Yosi, the height of the copper Mizbe'ach of Moshe Rabeinu is derived from the height of the Mizbe'ach in the Heichal. Just as the Mizbe'ach in the Heichal was twice the height of its length, the copper Mizbe'ach was also twice the height of its length.
