ZEVACHIM 35 (4 Sivan) - Dedicated by Mrs. David Kornfeld in memory of the members of her husband's family, Hashem Yikom Damam, who perished at the hands of the Nazi murderers in the Holocaust. (The exact date of their passing is not known; their Yahrzeit is observed on 4 Sivan.) May our Torah learning and teaching be l'Iluy Nishmas Mr. Kornfeld's mother (Mirel bas Yakov Mordechai), brothers (Shraga Feivel, Aryeh Leib and Yisachar Dov, sons of Mordechai), grandfather (Reb Yakov Mordechai ben David - Shpira) and aunt (Charne bas Yakov Mordechai - wife of Reb Moshe Aryeh Cohen z'l).

SUMMARY

1. The Tana Kama says that blood which is expelled from an animal after it died is forbidden to be eaten by an Isur Lav. Rebbi Yehudah says that it is forbidden by a Chiyuv Kares.
 
2. Rebbi Yehudah maintains that one type of blood does not nullify another type of blood which becomes mixed with it.
 
3. Blood, ink, honey and milk are a Chatzitzah when dry, but not when damp.
 
4. If a Kohen performs the Avodah with soiled garments, the Avodah is Pasul.
 
5. If a Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to eat a portion of the Korban which is not fit for eating after the allotted time, there is a disagreement if the Korban is Pigul.
 
6. If a Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to eat half of an olive's size of a Korban after the allotted time, and to consume another half of an olive's size on the Mizbe'ach after the allotted time, the Korban is valid.
 
7. If a Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to eat from the hide, sinews, bones, horns or hooves of the Korban after the allotted time, the Korban is valid.
 
8. Rebbi Elazar says that if a Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to eat from the flesh of the Korban after the allotted time, if he eats the fetus of the Korban he is Chayav Kares. If he does the reverse, the Korban is not Pigul.
 
9. Rebbi Elazar says that if a Kohen performs the Avodah on Parim ha'Nisrafim with intent to burn the Eimurim on the Mizbe'ach after the allotted time, he is Chayav Kares if he eats the flesh of the Korban. If he does the reverse, the Korban is not Pigul.
 
10. The Chiyuv Me'ilah for Parim ha'Nisrafim and Se'irim ha'Nisrafim applies from the time they are sanctified until the flesh is charred.
 
11 Rebbi Akiva says that if a Korban Ba'al Mum is placed on the Mizbe'ach, it shall not be taken down.
 
12. If the Mum existed prior to the sanctification of the Korban, even if it is placed on the Mizbe'ach it must be taken down.
 
13. If a Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to leave over the blood or the Eimurim after the allotted time, the Korban is Pasul according to Rebbi Yehudah. The Chachamim disagree.

A BIT MORE

1. Even according to Rebbi Yehudah, the blood does not atone if it is sprinkled on the Mizbe'ach. Only blood of a Korban which was expelled while the animal was still alive atones.
 
2. Therefore, Rebbi Yehudah maintains that one cup of blood is scooped up on Erev Pesach from the floor of the Azarah and sprinkled on the Mizbe'ach. The blood which atones on the Mizbe'ach is not nullified in the rest of the blood.
 
3. Therefore, the blood from the Korbanos gathered on the floor of the Azarah is not a Chatzitzah between the bare feet of the Kohen and the floor of the Azarah.
 
4. Therefore, on Erev Pesach, when the floor of the Azarah is covered with blood, the Kohanim walk on platforms which are placed in the Azarah so that their garments do not become soiled from the blood.
 
5. According to the Tana Kama, the Korban is not Pigul. According to Rebbi Eliezer, it is Pigul.
 
6. Although his Machshavah was on a total of an olive's size, the Korban is not Pigul because Achilah and Haktarah do not combine.
 
7. If a Kohen eats one of these parts of a Korban which is Pigul, he is not Chayav Kares.
 
8. The fetus is considered part of the Korban, according to Rebbi Elazar. However, since it is not suitable for eating, if the Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to eat from the fetus of the Korban after the allotted time, the Korban is not Pigul.
 
9. The flesh of the Parim ha'Nisrafim is not suitable for eating. Therefore, if the Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to eat from the flesh of the Korban after the allotted time, the Korban is not Pigul.
 
10. Once the flesh is charred, the Mitzvah has been done, and the laws Me'ilah no longer apply.
 
11. Rebbi Yochanan says that even according to Rebbi Akiva, only an animal which has the type of Mum which would not disqualify a bird shall be left on the Mizbe'ach, such as a Mum in the eye. However, if the animal is missing a limb, a Mum that would disqualify even a bird, the animal must be taken down from the Mizbe'ach.
 
12. If a female animal is sanctified as an Olah, even if it is placed on the Mizbe'ach it must be taken down. Only a male animal may be brought as an Olah. It is akin to the presence of a Mum prior to the sanctification of the Korban.
 
13. Even though he did not have the Machshavah to eat from the Korban after the allotted time, the Korban still is Pasul according to Rebbi Yehudah.
