SUMMARY

1. During the eight days of Chanukah, mention of Chanukah is made in Birkas ha'Mazon.

2. While there is a dispute about mentioning Rosh Chodesh in Birkas ha'Mazon, the Gemara concludes that it should be mentioned.

3. Rebbi Oshiya discussed many differences between days when a Korban Musaf is brought (such as Rosh Chodesh) and days when it is not brought.

4. When Yom Kippur occurs on Shabbos, one must make mention of Shabbos even during Ne'ilah.

5. There is a dispute about whether tar may be used for the Shabbos candles.

A BIT MORE

1. Just as we mention Chanukah during Shemoneh Esreh in the blessing of giving thanks ("Modim"), we mention Chanukah in Birkas ha'Mazon in the blessing of giving thanks ("Nodeh Lecha").

2. Rebbi Oshiya taught that any day that has a Korban Musaf also must be mentioned in Birkas ha'Mazon.

3. For example, when a Korban Musaf is brought, the nature of the day must be mentioned during every Shemoneh Esreh. If one omits mention of the day, he must repeat Shemoneh Esreh. This is as opposed to days when it is not brought (such as fast days, except for Yom Kippur). If one forgot to mention the nature of the day in Shemoneh Esreh, he does not repeat Shemoneh Esreh.

4. Rebbi Yehoshua ben Levi says that even though Ne'ilah is unique to Yom Kippur, Shabbos is still mentioned just as it is mentioned in the other Tefilos of the day that are normally recited on Shabbos.

5. Rebbi Yishmael: One may not use tar. Since it has a bad smell, it does not give honor to Shabbos. Chachamim: It is permitted.
