The notes seem to imply you can count your childbirth tumah days and your "days for giving birth in a state of zivah" in either order. Is this correct?

I'm not sure which notes you are referring to. However, the Halachah in the time of the Gemara would follow Rava (37a) that one could count seven clean days from Zivah starting immediately during the childbirth Tumah days, and go to the Mikvah on the night of the eighth day, assuming the baby was a boy and she stopped bleeding the day of childbirth (see Rambam Hilchos Isurei Bi'ah 7:5).
