DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 4

Anonymous asked:

1) R'Y.B.L SAYS GEULA SAMUCH TEFILA ISNT IMPORTANT AT NIGHT BEC. MAIN GEULA DAY. BUT IS IT STILL IMPORTANT TO BE SOMEICH GEULAH L'TEFILAH?

2) SO WHAT IF THE TANA HOLDS MAARIV IS A CHIAV, THIS GEZEIRA IS FOR KRIAS SHEMA.

3) WHAT'S THE QUESTION IF THE RABANAN HOLD OF R'G THEY SHOULD SAY ALL NIGHT - THE MISHNA ANSWERS THAT!

4) why does maravah need a proof from a braisa that a cohen eats trumah at night. We can see it in the mishna krias shema shel arvis not in morning?!?

The Kollel replies:

1. According to R. Yehoshua ben Levi, when one Davens Ma'ariv, Shemonah-Esrei precedes the Sh'ma, in which case 'Somech Ge'ulah li'Tefilah' is not even applicable.

2. The Beraisa does not mention the Sh'ma only. It mentions the Sh'ma and the Shemonah Esrei, and then it adds the seemingly superfluous statement that 'whoever transgresses the words of the Chachamim is Chayav Misah'.

Then the Gemara asks why it is necessary to mention that here, seeing as it applies to all of the Chachamim's decrees. And it gives two answers, one in connection with the Sh'ma, the other, in connection wit the Shemonah-Esrei.

Admittedly, the Gemara cited the Beraisa to prove that the Chachamim require the Sh'ma to be said before midnight because of a Gezeirah. But who tells you that this is the sole Chidush of the Beraisa? The Tana is, in fact, coming to tell us two things; a. To be careful to recite the Sh'ma before midnight, b. to Daven the Amidah, which is not R'shus, but a Chiyuv. And to reinforce these two points, it adds 'whoever transgresses the words of the Chachamim ... '.

3. The question is why the Chachamim say until midnight. Is it because they hold in principle like R. Eliezer, who interprets "be'Shochb'cha" as the time people go to bed (only R. Eliezer holds that this is up to four hours, whereas they hold that it is until midnight. Or is it because they hold like R. Gamliel, who interprets "be'Shochb'cha" to mean as long as people are sleeping, and midnight is only a Gezeirah, as we have discussed.

4. Presumably, you learn the dilemma of the B'nei Ma'arva like Rashi - whether the Kohanim may eat Terumah with 'Bi'as ha'Shemesh' (nightfall), or 'Bi'as Oro' (sunrise). In you did, then you are in league with Tosfos, who ask the same question.

Consequently, they explain the two terms to mean nightfall (Tzeis ha'Kochavim) or sunset (Sheki'ah), which the Mishnah does not clarify.
