DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 4

Laurence Tauber asked:

Why isn't the Kaddish before shemoneh esreh of Maariv considered a hefsek between geula and tefillah. Kaddish shouldn't be considered an extension of geula since it doesn't deal with redemption.

Laurence Tauber, Staten Island, New York, USA

The Kollel replies:

The Rosh actually writes that the Kadish is recited at that point to show that we are not being Somech Ge'ulah L'Tefilah at Ma'ariv, since we follow the view that maintains that Tefilas Arvis Reshus (Ma'ariv was not instituted as an obligatory Tefilah, but as a voluntary Tefilah). The verses of "Baruch Hash-m l'Olam" that many recite as part of Ma'ariv are also a Hefsek

However, according to this, it would seem that those who follow the Minhag of Eretz Yisrael not to recite those eighteen verses should also not recite the Kadish. Sefer Seder ha'Yom writes that Kadish is considered part of Ge'ulah, because it is a Tefilah that the name of Hash-m be exalted, which refers to the Ge'ulah (see our Insights to the Daf, to Chulin 13:3:b).
