 DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 3
1. Marcus Abisror asks:

i think the obvious question is that what is the mistabra that eating on shabbos wont as early as zman tebila, isnt zman tebila basically tzeis, from what the answer that was given for r' meir right before, and we know (maharsha) that tosfot holds that eating on shabbos is before tzeis, and from the fact that the ri on amud aleph paskens like that shita

2. The Kollel replies:

Dear Marcus,

I'm not sure what is bothering you, but maybe this can help: The time of Tevilah in the Mikveh must be before the "end of the day," and if the person is not Tovel by then, he must wait until the following night for it to be considered "u'Va ha'Shemesh."

The question remains, though, that the "end of the day" might be at sunset if, right afterwards, Bein ha'Shemashos begins, or it could be later, such as according to the view of Rebbi Yosi (that "Heref Ayin" before Tzeis), because only then Bein ha'Shemashos begins.

Please let me know if you still have a difficulty.

All the best,

Reuven Weiner

3. Marcus asks:

I understand that, but if tevila is tzeis (a second before according to reb yossi) how can tosafot say that eating on erev shabbos is not as early as that, but we already know that the time of eating on erev shabbos is before tzeis, as I mentioned before, tosafot on beis amud aleph the ri.

4. The Kollel replies:

Dear Marcus,

The Chidushei Rabeinu Eliyahu Gutmacher asks your question and gives no answer!

The Ma'on Berachos seems to answer that Tosfos is not implying that the time is later. The Ri did say it is early. Tosfos only asks that if it is early then it duplicates another opinion and that is Lo Mistavra, it is not logical to say that, so the Gemara does not want to explain in that manner from the start.

All the best,

Reuven Weiner
