DAF DISCUSSIONS - BERACHOS 2

Richard asked:

the conclusion is that the poor is the lastest time - What did Rashi mean at the top be the page that the poor person eats early becuase he has no candle/light

richard, brooklyn, usa

The Kollel replies:

When Rashi (2b) writes that the poor person eats his meal early because he cannot afford a light, it is clear what he means. You are bothered by Rashi's words later (DH Nichnasin), when he says that the time that a poor person eats his meal is the latest time of all the opinions to read the Shema. We have explained (see Girsa section to our Background to the Daf to Berachos 2b, and Chart #1, footnote 6) that it is clear from the Rishonim that these words in Rashi are a printing error, since it is clearly not the latest time.
