What is the meaning of "Betach Badad"?

1.

Rashi #1 and Seforno: It means that they will dwell in safety, 1 each person under his vine and each person under his fig-tree. 2

2.

Rashi (in Sanhedrin, 104a): 'In security and peacefully'. It is unnecessary to place troops to guard them. They dwell alone without fear of Nochrim or of wild animals.

3.

Targum Yonasan: It means that they dwelt in safety like in times gone by. 3

4.

Da'as Zekenim and Rosh: They will dwell alone. 4

1

Seforno: As the Pasuk states in Yehoshua, 11:23.

2

Rashi: Spread out - without need to gather together to protect themselves from the enemy. It is not like the "Badad" (meaning lonely) that the Navi spoke of in Yirmiyah, 15:17.

3

See Na'ar Yonasan.

4

As the Pasuk writes in Mishlei 14:10 "u've'Simchaso Lo Yis'arev Zar".

2)

What are the connotations of "Ein Ya'akov"?

1.

Rashi: It means like (similar to) 1 the B'rachah of Ya'akov. 2

2.

Hadar Zekenim (24) [This Brachah applies to Tzadikim] like Ya'akov, including righteous converts, but not to Resha'im or to Nochrim. 3

1

Rashi: Like "ke'Ein ha'Bedolach", in Bamidbar 11:7.

2

Rashi: In Bereishis 48:21.

3

It seems that Da'as Zekenim and Rosh hold like this, just some words are missing. (PF) As in Bamidbar 23:9 "u'va'Goyim Lo Yischashav".

4

See Seforno.

5

Seforno: Who will shower Yisrael with Torah like dew

3)

What are the implications of "Af Shamav Ya'arfu Tal"?

1.

Rashi: 'Also the B'rachah of Yitzchak, in addition to that of Ya'akov - "ve'Yiten l'cha Elokim mi'Tal ha'Shamayim... ". 1

2.

Seforno: It is a Tefilah that, in the days of Mashi'ach, 2 the heavens will automatically shower dew in abundance on to a land (that produces by itself) grain and wine. 3

3.

Targum Onkelos: 'Also the heavens above will serve them by providing them with dew'.

4.

Targum Yonasan: 'Also the heavens rained on them dew of blessing and rain of goodwill'.

2

Seforno: Refer to 33:28:2:3, and see Shabbos, 30b.

3

Seforno: As it did during the six days of the creation - before Adam sinned. See Bereishis, 2:5 & 6.
