Why is "S'lav" written with a 'Siyn' but spelt with a 'Samech'?

Yoma, 75b: To hint that, whereas the Tzadikim ate it 'tranquilly' (be'Shalvah), for the Resha'im including the Beinonim) it was like thorns (ke'Silvin).

What is the definition of "Asarah Chomarim"?

Targum Onkelos and Targum Yonasan: ?Ten piles?.

Chizkuni: ?Ten Chomrim? (Kurim), which equals three hundred Sa'ah. T'he one who collected the least had ten Sa'im [to eat] each day.

Who is ?ha?Mam?it? referring to?

1.

Rashi and Targum Yonasan: It refers to those who were lame (or who were missing a leg ? Targum Yonasan [and to those who were lazy ? Rashi]).

4)

Why did the people gather such large quantities of quails?

1.

Seforno: Because they were overcome with desire to eat as much as they could.

Targum Yonasan: The Pasuk is referring to the people who lacked Emunah, who wanted to grab as much as they could whilst the going was good. 1

Oznayim la'Torah: Despite Hashem having informed them that He would send quails for an entire month. In fact, according to the Sifri, they actually waited outside the camp for the quails to fall and when they did, they struck them, killing more than those who died after eating them - as a punishmment for their complete lack of Emunah.

What are the connotations of ?Va'yisht?chu lahem Shato?ach??

1.

Rashi, Targum Onkelos and Targum Yonasan: It means that they spread them out aroind the camp.

Yoma, 75b: ?Vayisht?chu? ? which one inverts to read ?Vayishachat? ? means that they were worthy of being slaughtered, and ?Shato?ach?, that the quails were spread out like carpets ? ?she?Yarad lahem Mashtichin Mashtichin?. 1

Why did they spread out the quails around the camp, and why not inside the camp?

Oznayim la'Torah: In order to dry them in the sun, to preserve it for long periods; 1 'around the camp' since the Cloud covered the camp and the sun did not shine inside the camp. 2

Why did such a large quantity of quails fall, bearing in mind that the Manna exactly according to the amount that was required?

Oznayim la'Torah: Because, as opposed to the Manna, which came in thr form of a B'rachah, the S'lav came as a K'lalah - allowing each person to collect as much as he desired and suffer accordingly, precisely as Hashem had warned them.
