Who is "Charash"?

Rashi #1: It is the one who melted the [metal to form] the idol.

Rashi #2: This is Shem, who was a smith to make nails and bolts for the ark.

Radak: A carpenter. First he makes the idol from wood, and strengthens with his word.

Malbim: It is the craftsman who makes weapons.

Who is "Tzoref"?

1.

Rashi #1: It is the one who beat the gold [to form it].

2.

Rashi #2: It is Avraham, who refined the creations to draw them close to the Shechinah.

Radak: He refines silver and gold to make a silver plating from them 1 , and plates it.

4.

Malbim: He mines iron from the ground. The Charash is forced to wait until the Tzoref finishes. They will be so rushed to prepare weapons that the Charash will help the Tzoref to take out the iron and purify it, so he will have iron to make a sword and spear.

Who is "Machalik Patish"?

1.

Rashi: He bangs the hammer gently at the end to smoothen the work. Radak - Machalik refers to smooth, like "v'Anochi Ish Chalak" (Bereishis 27:11], "va'Chalaklakos" (Tehilim 35:6).

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: It is a great sledgehammer.

Malbim: He smooths the Kli, Also he will help the Holem (who bangs the iron to form the weapon), and not wait for him to finish.

Why does it say "Es Holem Pa'am"?

1.

Rashi #1: He begins it, when it is a chunk of metal. He bangs it with all his strength.

2.

Rashi #2: This is Avraham, who struck all these kings one Pa'am (time).

Radak: Holem is a noun, for the accent is on the first syllable. It is a blow, like "v'Halmah Sisra" (Shoftim 5:26). Pa'am is the Sadan (anvil) on which they strike. "Es " is in place of the prefix Lamed; it means l'Makas ha'Sadan.

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: It is a small hammer, which Chazal call Kornas. A smith bangs with a big hammer, and afterwards a small one.

Malbim: He bangs the iron to form the weapon.

What is the meaning of "Omer la'Devek Tov Hu"?

1.

Rashi #1: This is those who pursued a good land to stick in it chunks of iron. Devek is soldering.

Rashi #2: It is good to cling the G-d of this one (Avraham).

3.

Radak: When the metal plates are stuck well on the wooden idol, he is happy, and says 'it is good.'

4.

Malbim: It is good to stick together two pieces of broken swords, and fasten them with nails lest they separate. This is amidst their frenzy to prepare for war.

Rashi #1: The image.
