==========
FOOTNOTES:
==========
(1) One is permitted to buy the Chagigah of the fourteenth of Nisan and the Shalmei Simchah with money of Ma'aser. This is because the Chagigah of the fourteenth is not obligatory, and any non-obligatory Korban may be bought with money of Ma'aser. Similarly, Shalmei Simchah is not obligatory when a person has the meat of Shelamim to eat (RASHI DH Af Min ha'Ma'aser).
(2) The Amora'im dispute how this combination ("Tofel") is to be done:

1. Chizkiyah (8a) maintains that one may add additional *animals* of Ma'aser to the first animal, but the first animal must be entirely from Chulin.
2. Rebbi Yochanan (8a) maintains that one may combine *money* of Ma'aser with *money* of Chulin in order to buy a larger animal for the Korban Chagigah (but *every* animal offered on the first day must have been bought at least in part with money of Chulin).
3. Rav Sheshes (8b) maintains that one may add additional *animals* of Ma'aser to the first animal, which is bought with Chulin (like Chizkiyah), *and* one may combine *money* of Ma'aser with money of Chulin to buy a larger animal, even for the first animal (like Rebbi Yochanan).
(3) According to Beis Shamai, "Tefeilah" may not be done (in any of the manners mentioned in footnote 2). Rather, the entire animal must be brought completely from Chulin. (Why, though, does Beis Shamai prohibit adding animals of Ma'aser to the first animal, which comes from Chulin? Once he has offered the first animal, he has already fulfilled his obligation to offer the Korban Chagigah and the subsequent animals are all Nedavos which *may* be brought from Ma'aser!  RASHI (8a, DH Chizkiyah Amar) answers that all of the animals brought on the first day have a status of the Korban Chagigah, and thus all must be brought from Chulin.)
(4) In each case in the chart above in which the Korban may be brought from Ma'aser, one is permitted to bring the animal from either Ma'aser Sheni or Ma'aser Behemah, *except* when he brings the Korban on Yom Tov. On Yom Tov, he may bring such a Korban only from Ma'aser Sheni but not from Ma'aser Behemah, lest one separate Ma'aser Behemah on Yom Tov (which is prohibited). See also RAMBAM.
