TOSFOS DH CHAI MAZIG VE'LO MAZIG

(a)

Precedent (Part 1): In similar fashion, Rabeinu Tam explains the Gemara in B'rachos (regarding the ten things that are listed there in connection with the Kos shel B'rachah) which asks 'But have we not learned that all opinion agree that does not recite a B'rachah over it before adding water'?

(b)

Precedent (Part 2): Rabeinu Tam explains there that 'Chai' means 'Mazig ve'Lo Mazig'.

(2) TOSFOS DH YUD-GIMEL VAVIN

(a)

Implied Question: Why does Ubar Gelila'ah not include the 'Vav' of "va'Yafes"?

(b)

Answer: Because it (Yafes) is a name.

3)

TOSFOS DH KILELO BI'REVI'A

(a)

Implied Question: Why did he not curse Cham personally>

(b)

Answer: The Medrash, citing R. Yehudah, answers that the Torah writes "and Hash-m blessed No'ach and his sons, and there is no such thing as a curse in the place of a blessing. That is why he declared 'Arur Cana'an!'.

TOSFOS DH BAH NISKANU

(SUMMARY: Tosfos disagree with Rashi's interpretation of this statement [that Hash-m heals with the same knife with which he cuts]. They interpret it in accordance with Mashal presented by the Medrash Rabah).

(a)

Explanation #1: Rashi explains that it is the way of Hash-m to perform a miracle within a miracle by healing with the same knife that He used to make the cut.

(b)

Precedent: Like one Pasuk writes "And He set fire to Tzi'on with fire", whilst another Pasuk writes "And I will be a wall of fire".

(c)

Refutation: That is not the issue in our Gemara at all.

(d)

Explanation #2 (Part 1): But rather like the Bereishis Rabah, which compares it to the king's son whose father expelled him from the palace for sinning with one of the maidservants. The prince went knocking at the doors of the maidservants, who all refused him entry, all except for the maidservant with whom he sinned. She was the only one to take him in.

(e)

Explanation #2 (Part 2): So too, when Adam ate from the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, Hash-m expelled him from Gan Eden. He went from tree to tree (looking for something with which to cover himself and Chavah). But all of which refused to assist him. What did they say? R. B'rachya quotes them as saying 'This is the thief who stole the 'Da'as' of his Creator!'

(f)

Explanation #2 (Part 3): This is what the Pasuk (in Tehilim) is referring to when it says "Let the foot of the foot of arrogance come to me" (the foot of the one who displayed arrogance towards his Creator); "and let not the hand of the wicked move me!" (it will not take a leaf from me!).

(g)

Explanation #2 (Part 4): Only the fig-tree, from which he ate, 'opened its doors and allowed him in'.

5)

TOSFOS DH VE'EIN OLIM LAH BE'YOM

(a)

Question: Question: Did we not already learn this in the Reisha 'le'Or Iburo' (on the eve of its Ibur)?

(b)

Answer: Answer: We would have thought that that comes to preclude, not the day, but the night preceding the Ibur.
