12TH CYCLE DEDICATIONS:

PESACHIM 64 (22 Adar) - Dedicated by Rav Tuvya Marcus (Baltimore/Yerushalayim) in honor of the first Yahrzeit of his mother, Beila Leah bas Yakov Yosef z"l.

SUMMARY

1. There is a Mitzvah for the Pesach to be slaughtered in three groups.

2. The people would fill the Azarah until the gate was closed, at which time the Shofar was blown.

3. Each group would recite Hallel together while slaughtering the Korban Pesach, and would repeat it if there was time.

4. Each group had at least thirty members.

5. In the days of Agripas, there was an Erev Pesach when 1,200,000 Korbanos were brought.

A BIT MORE

1. This is derived from the verse, "And all of the gathering of the congregation of Israel will slaughter it." "Gathering," "congregation," and "Israel" indicate that it should be slaughtered in three different groups, one after the other.

2. The Kohanim would form rows to pass the blood of each Korban Pesach from the place where it was slaughtered to the Mizbe'ach. One sprinkle of blood was thrown from the vessel onto the Yesod of the Mizbe'ach.

3. The first group never said the entire Hallel more than twice, while the third group had so few people that they never reached even the chapter "Ahavti" (towards the beginning of Hallel).

4. This is because it is possible that the verse (see #1) refers to three sets of ten in each group, and not just three separate groups. Accordingly, we require three groups of thirty.

5. Each Korban Pesach usually represented a group of about ten people. Accordingly, twelve million people participated in the Korban Pesach that year.
