12th Cycle Dedication

ERCHIN 16 - Two weeks of study material have been dedicated by Mrs. Estanne Abraham Fawer to honor the twelfth Yahrzeit of her father, Rav Mordechai ben Eliezer Zvi (Rabbi Morton Weiner) Z'L, who passed away on 18 Teves 5760. May the merit of supporting and advancing Dafyomi study -- which was so important to him -- during the weeks of his Yahrzeit serve as an Iluy for his Neshamah.

SUMMARY

1. Blessing someone in public can sometimes be the equivalent of cursing him.

2. One should not praise a person too much.

3. Tzara'as is caused by one of seven sins.

4. A Metzora has the unique punishment of being sent out of all three camps, to a place where he lives alone (while he is a Metzora).

5. If a person is usually a guest at a certain person's home when he visits that town, he should not stay in someone else's home.

A BIT MORE

1. For example, person was treated hospitably as a guest in a rich person's home. If he publicly blesses his host, praising him for his lavish hospitality, he may cause dishonest people to go to the host's home and cause him to lose his money (i.e. they will steal from him).

2. This may cause people to point out flaws in the person.

3. They are: Lashon ha'Ra, murder, swearing falsely, illicit relations, haughtiness, stealing, and stinginess.

4. The Gemara explains that just as the one who spoke Lashon ha'Ra separated men from their wives and people from their friends with his evil speech, so, too, he should be separated from other Jews.

5. This is derived from Avraham, who went "to the place where his tent originally was." Others say that this is derived from the verse, "And he went on his travels," implying that he went to the same places that he visited on his previous travels.
