ZEVACHIM 36 (5 Sivan) - Dedicated l'Zecher Nishmas Reb Chaim Aryeh ben Aharon Stern Z'L by Shmuel Gut of Brooklyn, N.Y.

SUMMARY

1. If a Kohen performs the Avodah with intent that Teme'im or Arelim will eat from the Korban or bring the Eimurim to the Mizbe'ach, the Korban is valid.

2. If a Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to leave over the blood or Eimurim after the allotted time, the Korban is Pasul according to Rebbi Yehudah. The Chachamim disagree.

3. A Korban Todah, a replacement for a Todah, the offspring of a Todah, the Temurah of a Todah, and the breads of a Todah must be eaten on the day it is brought or the following night.

4. According to one Tana's understanding of the view of Rebbi Yehudah, if the Kohen performs the Avodah with intent to bring the blood into the Heichal, the Korban is Pasul.

5. According to one Tana's understanding of the view of Rebbi Yehudah, if a Kohen slaughters a Chatas in the south part of the Azarah, he is Chayav Malkus.

6. If a Kohen performs the Avodah with intent that Teme'im will eat the meat of the Korban after the allotted time, the Korban is Pigul.

7. If a Tamei person eats the meat of a Korban Pesach which had not yet been roasted, or the bread of a Todah which had not yet been designated for the Kohen, he is Chayav.

8. According to Beis Shamai, if the blood of a Korban was placed only once on the Mizbe'ach, the Korban atones, with the exception of a Chatas. Beis Hillel says that even a Chatas atones if the blood was placed once on the Mizbe'ach.

9. If the first placement of the blood of a Korban was done properly, and the second placement was done with a thought of Pigul, the Korban is valid.

10. If the Kohen fails to perform just one of the placements of blood of the type of Korban which requires its blood to be placed on the Mizbe'ach in the Heichal, the Korban is Pasul.

A BIT MORE

1. The only thoughts which invalid a Korban are: a Machshavah to eat the Korban after the allotted time, out of the allotted place, and a Korban Pesach and Chatas which are offered she'Lo Lishmah.

2. Rebbi Yehudah maintains that just as the blood that is left over until the next day renders the Korban Pasul, the Korban is Pasul if the Kohen has intent to leave it over until the next day.

3. If an animal designated for a Korban Todah was lost and another animal was designated in its place, and subsequently the first animal was found, the second animal is a replacement Todah and is brought on the Mizbe'ach.

4. However, according to another Tana's understanding of Rebbi Yehudah's opinion, even if the Kohen actually brings the blood of a Korban into the Heichal, the Korban becomes Pasul only if the blood was brought in intentionally and placed on the Mizbe'ach in the Heichal.

5. Kodshei Kodashim must be slaughtered in the north of the Azarah. However, according to another Tana's understanding of Rebbi Yehudah's opinion, there is no Chiyuv Malkus for slaughtering a Chatas in the south of the Azarah.

6. Even though it is forbidden for a Tamei person to eat the meat of a Korban, the Machshavah of the Kohen is considered to be a Machshavas Pigul.

7. The Chiyuv of Tum'ah applies only to a Korban which may be eaten. However, the Korban Pesach may be eaten after it is roasted, and the bread of the Todah may be eaten after it is designated, the Chiyuv of Tum'ah applies to it.

8. If the blood of a Korban was placed once on the Mizbe'ach it is valid, even the blood of a Korban which, l'Chatchilah, requires two Matanos which are four. The exception is a Korban Chatas according to Beis Shamai, who requires that its blood be placed at least twice on the Mizbe'ach. According to Beis Hillel, even a Korban Chatas is valid if the blood was placed at least once on the Mizbe'ach.

9. Since the Korban is valid b'Di'eved with only one placement of blood (with the exception of a Korban Chatas according to Beis Shamai), the Korban cannot become Pasul with the second placement of the blood.

10. If the blood was placed on the Mizbe'ach the first time with a Machshavas Pigul, and the other times the blood was placed on the Mizbe'ach properly, the Korban is Pasul but not Pigul. A Korban cannot become Pigul with half of the Matir.
