SUMMARY

1. The Chachamim were Metamei the Kohen who burns the Parah Adumah in order to demonstrate the fallacy of the Tzedukim who maintain that only a Kohen who had He'erev Shemesh may burn the Parah.
 
2. Unless a Kohen washes his hands and feet from the Kiyor and immerses himself in a proper Mikvah, the Avodah that he does is Pasul.
 
3. Rebbi Chiya b'Rebbi Yosef maintains that the water in the Kiyor becomes Pasul with Linah at sunset for the purpose of the sprinkling of the blood of a Korban and the burning of the Kometz of a Minchah.
 
4. Rav Chisda maintains that the water of the Kiyor does not become Pasul with Linah when it was lowered into the underground spring before dawn, even for the Avodah of the sprinkling of the blood of a Korban and the burning of the Kometz of a Minchah.
 
5. Rebbi Yochanan maintains that once the water of the Kiyor is lowered into the underground spring, it may not be brought up again.
 
6. Rebbi Yochanan maintains that if a Kohen washes his hands and feet before dawn from the Kiyor for the Terumas ha'Deshen, he does not need to wash again for the subsequent Avodos.
 
7. When the Kohen enters the Azarah, he cannot be seen but he can be heard. The Kohanim who are in the Beis Mokad announce that he has reached the Kiyor.

A BIT MORE

1. They were Metamei the Kohen on Har ha'Zeisim after he washed his hands and feet, immersed himself in a Mikvah, and then burned the Parah Adumah.
 
2. Even though a Mikvah contains rainwater and the Kiyor contains only drawn water, immersing in a Mikvah is not a substitute for washing from the water of the Kiyor.
 
3. Since the blood and the Kometz become Pasul with Linah at sunset, the water of the Kiyor is also Pasul with Linah for these Avodos, unless the Kiyor was lowered into the ground before sunset. However, the water of the Kiyor may be used by a Kohen who will burn the Eimurim on the Mizbe'ach as long as the Kiyor was lowered into the underground spring before dawn, since this Avodah may be done the entire night.
 
4. The sprinkling of the blood of a Korban and the burning of the Kometz of a Minchah may not be done at night. However, the Kohen who does these Avodos may wash his hands from the water of the Kiyor even if the water was not lowered into the underground spring until right before dawn.
 
5. Rebbi Yochanan agrees with Rav Chisda that the water of the Kiyor becomes Pasul with Linah at dawn. Rebbi Yochanan maintains that there is a Mitzvah to lower it into the underground spring in the evening so that they not forget to lower it before dawn and it become Pasul with Linah.
 
6. Although the water of the Kiyor is brought up from the underground spring for the purpose of the Terumas ha'Deshen, it must be lowered again before dawn so that it not become Pasul with Linah. According to Abaye, a Kohen who washes his hands and feet from the Kiyor becomes Pasul with Linah only mid'Rabanan. Since the Terumas ha'Deshen is the first Avodah of the day, it is not necessary for the Kohen to wash his hands again. However, the water in the Kiyor is Pasul with Linah Min ha'Torah, and, therefore, if it is not lowered before dawn, it becomes Pasul.
 
7. The Kohanim in the Beis Mokad hear him either bringing up the water of the Kiyor (according to Rebbi Yochanan), or lowering it in the ground (according to Rav Chisda). Upon hearing him, they ready themselves to move the ashes on the Mizbe'ach into the big mound in the middle of the Mizbe'ach.
